Chronograph Watches
If there is one watch that has become an essential part of the world of watchmaking, it is undoubtedly the chronograph. Highly prized by fans of sports watches, the chronograph has been around since the 19th century in its very first form.
Since this is now an unstoppable trend, the Watch Club has, of course, selected a range of chronograph watches that we invite you to discover right now.
The Chronograph Watch: The Ultimate Sports Timepiece
The term “chronograph” actually refers to a specific function. In Latin, “chronographus” means “one who records time”: thus, a chronograph watch measures intervals of time, just like a stopwatch. Specifically, this type of watch is equipped with a specialized mechanism that measures time starting from a given moment. A chronograph watch thus features two different timing systems: one to tell the time, and the other to measure elapsed time.
The first chronograph watches were invented in the early 19th century, but it wasn’t until 1934 that the reset push-button was introduced. Before that, one had to press a button that caused a drop of ink to be deposited on the dial; the mark left by the ink made it possible to measure the elapsed time.
A chronograph watch should not be confused with a chronometer. While the two systems may seem similar, this is not the case when it comes to watchmaking. In fact, a chronometer watch offers high precision and must meet specific standards, such as being tested at different temperatures and in different positions.
The chronograph watch has undoubtedly made its mark on the history of watchmaking; it is used in particular by professionals such as railroad inspectors and even doctors.
A wide selection of chronograph watches, including iconic models
Over the course of several centuries, the chronograph watch has evolved considerably. You will likely hear about “complicated” chronograph watches, which feature multiple sub-dials—two or three, depending on the model. For example, there are chronographs with a calendar function. Of course, the digitization of watchmaking has also contributed to the changing aesthetics of the chronograph. A prime example is the famous Casio watches from the Vintage collection, inspired by the 1970s.
Our selection of chronograph watches also features models from LIP, Ruckfield, and Casio.
The LIP brand offers a wide range of chronograph models, including the Rallye collection. The Jacquard model, for example, with its white and blue dial featuring white luminescent baton hour markers and blue sub-dials at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock, embodies the very essence of speed. With its famous tachymeter scale on the black outer rim, this watch is designed to measure performance with precision.
At Ruckfield, you’ll also find a wide selection of chronograph models designed for sports. Created by Sébastien Chabal, this Avignon-based brand offers affordable, water-resistant, multifunctional watches to suit every wrist, such as the digital-display sports collection.
Finally, Casio and vintage models often feature a chronograph function. This is particularly true of the Casio Vintage Illuminator watch with a black Milanese mesh band.
Our catalog features chronograph watches for both men and women that make timing a breeze. You’ll also love the unique aesthetic of chronograph watches, especially when they feature multiple dials. You’ll appreciate the quality of craftsmanship in this type of watch, which is particularly appealing to watch enthusiasts—and has won over divers, race car drivers, and doctors alike.
Treat yourself and delight your loved ones by choosing a chronograph watch from a selection of models with impeccable finishes and designs to suit every taste.
