Dive Watches: The Best of 2026

2026 BUYER'S GUIDE

Dive Watches:
The Best of 2026

From €90 to €598, our selection of 200-meter water-resistant watches that can withstand anything—from the pool to the ocean floor.

A diving watch is not just a water-resistant watch. It is a safety instrument designed to withstand extreme pressures, legible in the darkness of the ocean depths, and capable of accurately measuring dive times. The ISO 6425 standard sets strict requirements: a minimum water resistance of 200 meters, a unidirectional bezel, readability at 25 cm in total darkness, and resistance to shocks and magnetic fields.

But today, the dive watch has long since outgrown its original purpose. It has become a symbol of sports, adventure, and a certain ruggedness in everyday life. People wear it while surfing, kayaking, hiking—or simply because it has an unmistakable look. Our selection caters to every budget—from the unbeatable entry-level Casio to the automatic LIP made in France.

?
ATM vs. Meters
1 ATM ≈ 10 m, but real-world conditions are more demanding. A "20 ATM" watch is reliable up to ~100 m during active diving. For recreational diving, aim for at least 200 m.
?
Unidirectional bezel
Turns only counterclockwise. Diving safety: If the bezel moves accidentally, it will overestimate the time spent underwater—never the other way around.
?
ISO 6425 Standard
The global benchmark for diving watches. Tests water resistance, shock resistance, readability, and accuracy under extreme conditions.

FAQ — Everything You Need to Know About Dive Watches

What is the minimum water resistance required to dive with a watch?
For scuba diving, look for a watch that’s water-resistant to at least 200 meters (20 ATM). Watches labeled “waterproof” or “water-resistant 30m/50m” are not designed for submersion—they can withstand only splashes at most. The ISO 6425 standard is the gold standard: only watches that meet this standard are true dive watches. In our selection, the Casio MDV-107 (€90) and the LIP Nautic Fantôme (€598) both offer a true 200m water resistance rating.
Can you go diving with a G-Shock?
Yes. G-Shock 200m models, such as the GW-M5610U and the GBD-200, are designed for recreational diving and snorkeling. They are water-resistant up to 200m. However, for technical diving or deep-sea diving, an ISO 6425-certified watch like the LIP Nautic Fantôme is more suitable—it meets additional criteria for readability and resistance to magnetic fields.
Automatic or quartz dive watch—which one should you choose?
Both have their advantages. Quartz (Casio MDV, G-Shock) is more accurate, maintenance-free, and shock-resistant—ideal for heavy use. Automatic (LIP Nautic) doesn’t require a battery, is mechanically more refined, and holds its value over the long term. For purely athletic use, quartz wins out. For a diving watch that you’ll also enjoy wearing around town, the automatic is the clear choice.
What is the purpose of the unidirectional bezel on a diving watch?
The unidirectional bezel (which rotates only counterclockwise) is a safety feature. The diver aligns the bezel’s zero mark with the large minute hand upon entering the water. This allows the diver to read the time spent underwater directly. If the bezel accidentally moves during the dive, it can only rotate counterclockwise, which—for safety reasons—overestimates the dive time rather than underestimating it.
