The "NATO"-style strap was developed in the 1960s, when the British Ministry of Defense was looking for a durable strap to fit the watches issued to its armed forces. Made in one piece, the "NATO" strap passes under the case. Its military origins are still reflected in its name (North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or OTAN in French), which refers to its NATO inventory code, G10.
