The history of the Himalaya watch is deeply rooted in the experiences of two French friends who were passionate about the mountains. Fred Lip, an avid mountaineer, had a memorable conversation with Lionel Terray, a renowned high-mountain guide. Their mutual friend, Maurice Herzog—who was the first mountaineer to climb Annapurna—also made a valuable contribution to the success of this iconic watch.

In 1959, advertisements for the Himalaya watch claimed that nine out of ten famous mountaineers chose it for its remarkable resistance to the elements and shocks. It had become the preferred choice of the "greats" of mountaineering.
