Himalaya Collection
Maurice Herzog—the hero, mountaineer, politician, and industrialist who was recently awarded the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor by Nicolas Sarkozy—passed away on December 13 at the age of 93. Lip owes him the “Himalaya” collection, a timeless tribute watch.
The Himalaya has been one of the most popular models in our collections since 1954. The Himalaya was, of course, endorsed by the great Maurice Herzog, who wore it himself. In fact, the watch was so highly prized at the time that a 1959 advertisement claimed, “Worn by Maurice Herzog and nine out of ten of mountaineering’s greatest figures.” The idea came from the high-mountain guide Lionel Terray, a friend of Fred Lip’s who was part of the “First 8,000” expedition to Annapurna. While the Himalaya is a highly regarded watch among mountaineers for its precision and durability, it’s also worth noting that it was a “star” of the Tour de France, where Lip served as the “official timekeeper.” It was produced until 1973—the year of the “Lip family feud”—before being reissued later in its current form.

Nautic Collection
Infused with a retro vibe, nostalgic sentiment, and advanced engineering, the legendary NAUTIC-SKI watch established itself as the first French watch water-resistant to 200 meters. It was unveiled in the spring of 1967 to mark LIP’s centennial, but it wasn’t until the 1968 Grenoble Olympic Games that it was truly launched in France. Featuring water resistance to 200 meters and an internal rotating bezel positioned beneath the crystal to prevent any movement that might cause an accident underwater, the Nautic-Ski stood out as a pioneer of its time.
Through this creation, Fred LIP has fused two fundamental aspects of his life: his passion for watchmaking and his love for his daughter. As a devoted watchmaking enthusiast, Fred LIP is constantly driven by the desire to stay ahead of his time. As early as 1957, he began preparing for the production of water-resistant watches called Nautic, thus foreshadowing the 1967 Nautic-Ski, whose absolute water resistance to 200 meters was revolutionary.
The name "Nautic-Ski" also comes from Muriel, Fred LIP's daughter. As a tribute to his daughter’s passion—she was a member of the French women’s alpine skiing team from 1950 to 1956—Fred LIP added the word “ski.” This reference gives the name Nautic-Ski its full meaning, positioning the watch in both the underwater world and the alpine realm.

General de Gaulle Collection
Discover the timeless elegance of the LIP GDG Collection, highlighted by a 1952 design by Fred Lip. The world’s first watch with an electronic movement—a gift to General de Gaulle—it also won over Eisenhower and Bill Clinton, earning it the title of “the presidents’ watch.”
True to the original but modernized with a quartz movement, it shines with details such as the lightning bolts beneath the logo and on the gold second hand. Its polished gold-plated steel case (41.00 x 35.00 mm) and mineral crystal further enhance its prestige.
The LIP GDG Collection promises quality, durability, and exceptional style. The GDG embodies French luxury, blending tradition and innovation. Discover this iconic piece from the LIP GDG Collection.
Mach 2000 Collection
LIP's Mach 2000 collection is a true icon in the world of watchmaking, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of wristwatch design. This iconic collection was launched in the 1970s, at a time when the watch industry was seeking to reinvent itself by exploring new shapes, materials, and concepts.
LIP, a renowned French watchmaker founded in 1867, has always been at the forefront of innovation and design. In the 1970s, it collaborated with French industrial designer Roger Tallon to create a collection of futuristic watches that would embody the avant-garde aesthetic of the era. Thus, the Mach 2000 collection was born in 1973.
At first glance, the Mach 2000 may seem surprising, even strange, mainly because of its off-center, half-moon shape. Understanding Roger Tallon’s ideas and philosophy is essential to grasping his highly distinctive artistic choices. The three colored crowns are spherical in shape to prevent any risk of injury to the hand when checking the time.

Big TV Collection
Welcome to reality TV. The watch unveiled today by LIP is, in fact, a reinterpretation of a model created by Roger Tallon, a star designer of the 1960s and 1970s.
In 1974, the Besançon-based company decided to enlist no fewer than seven designers from outside the watchmaking industry. Its goal? To breathe new life into the LIP collections following the social upheavals that had occurred a year earlier. It was a successful gamble, as the collection unveiled in 1975 breathed new life into the brand thanks to a series of incredibly avant-garde timepieces, particularly the Big TV model. Originally crafted in steel with a leather strap, this piece was inspired by another creation by Roger Tallon, the Portavia 111 portable television—with obvious similarities.
Now led by Pierre-Alain Bérard, LIP is benefiting from a policy that is both ambitious and well-thought-out, allowing it to gradually return to the forefront. This return to the spotlight is currently gaining momentum, thanks in particular to the Big TV Titane GAxBI, which—as its name suggests—is crafted from an ultra-light alloy.
Dauphine Collection
LIP Dauphine watches have a rich and captivating history, rooted in the French watchmaking tradition. First introduced in the 1950s, LIP Dauphine watches quickly gained popularity due to their distinctive, minimalist design.
The name “Dauphine” itself evokes an aristocratic charm, but LIP’s choice of this name was much more than a simple nod to the nobility. It was also inspired by the Renault Dauphine, an iconic car of the era that symbolized elegance and modernity. Thus, LIP Dauphine watches were meant to embody those same qualities.
Over the decades, LIP Dauphine watches have continued to evolve while retaining their vintage charm. The collection has introduced special editions, inspiring collaborations, and subtle updates to meet contemporary demands while preserving the classic essence that defines them.
Today, LIP Dauphine watches continue to captivate watch enthusiasts around the world. Their history, marked by innovation and timeless design, is a testament to LIP’s exceptional craftsmanship and its commitment to excellence in watchmaking. Whether for their historical legacy or their distinctive aesthetic, LIP Dauphine watches remain coveted timepieces that transcend the ages.
